Its first Korpsführer was a distinguished WW I Naval hero, airman, and winner of the Pour le Mérite (Blue Max) Fredrich Christiansen. It was largely a part-time organization with its duties as its name suggests mainly with flying and paramilitary exercises (Wehrsport. The NSFK was Divided into three main sections: powered aircraft, gliders, and balloons. This was one of the most important organizations within the NSDAP in that it gave birth to the mighty Luftwaffe.
